Effective education
Introduction
Three areas of competencies (planning, design & development and community development ) out of the 14 areas of competencies in the National Professional Standards for Teachers in Namibia document, have been chosen for discussion below. Based on the following four prompts; first is importance of the competencies, what makes me think that having and achieving this competencies will make difference in the classroom. 2nd the use of ICT to achieve my objectives and this three areas of teacher competencies. 3rdly how I plan to acquire and achieve the three selected competencies while I'm still studying. And last is a description on how as a teacher I can play a role in the community, based on the three areas.
Why I believe that I need to acquire and achieve these three areas of competencies.
- Developing plans for teaching allow a teacher to be effective in planning of the lesson, proper time management and to incorporate all the government and legal requirements for planning and employing all the aspects of planning into lesson plans to achieve and be successful with teaching inline with the law.
- Not only in the classroom but also acquire the ability to plan excellently for issues beyond the classroom.
- Analysing curriculum and syllabus requirements and developing of scheme of work will cause one to be familiar with contextual information the scope of performance in the values. There will be clear guidance to how you handle the classroom and the objectives to be achieved. The long-term plan clearly set out will allow you to manage your time effectively and it will direct your time management plans.
- As a teacher you need to be a good planner, therefore it's crucial that one achieves this competencies for that very purpose
- You will have a clear vision of the right objectives that need to be set for your lessons.
- Because you will meet national policies and guidelines
- Because the teacher needs the sequence and timing of learning activities clearly specified and appropriate to meet the given year plan outline.
- Because the duplex need to incorporate a balanced of developmentally appropriate strategies to promote social skills critical thinking skills practical skills problem solving and enquiry based learning.
When it comes to designing learning sessions and learning experiences, the teacher will be well informed on the four elements of the Elements and performance criteria which are; number one designing learning in terms of broad and specific aims.
2nd to designing for learner centred learning experiences.
3rd designing railing around required resources within organisational constraints.
And the fourth being designing learning for mastery.
Adding to that the elements and performance criteria.
With the right information a teacher will employ into the classroom, outside sources and resources from the community to advance their teaching.
This will be the use of ICT to help me achieve these three areas of competencies
All the three competencies will need the assistance of ICT to accomplish them. A computer is an important tool in creating lesson plans and putting together material that is needed for planning. Acquiring these materials need the the internet, transferring of material from one person to another requires special tools like computers that supports the emailing system it makes it easy to plan faster to access planning material to transfer information and material between two individuals.
There are special tools that specifically created for designing, software is like Microsoft Excel allows one to enter data into software and software comparison converts the data into graphs or different charts making it easy to anal to analyse data. Printers and photocopy machines makes it possible to print documents onto paper and devices like flash drives and hard drives provides a way for one to store data on them for as long and also move with their data easily.
Birches can be printed to help spread awareness out into the community or to invite people to take part in community awareness campaigns.
A project data that needs to be connected devices like the smartphone can be used to gather visual and verbal data, easily and faster and in great quantities.
This is how one can acquire or achieve the three competencies while still studying.
During the time when one finds themselves at the institution of higher learning, during their studies they can still, achieve acquire these competencies by accessing the material documents for further studying. They can get this information by making connections with professionals in the field and also consulting different sources, like videos and sermons online. Other than that is the availability of books in the libraries, this government documents are also available to read and download from the government websites. In addition to that one needs to take seriously opportunity of School Based Studies or Teacher Practice.
It says it's advisable for students to get involved in community developments charity works take part in communal meetings to familiarise themselves with the Thames and discussions that are happening to multiply their awareness for the communities. We are encouraged to follow up on topics and discussions that are based and centered around community developments and awareness.
Playing a role in community development.
Conduct research to find out problems and their causes in the community. Analyze research, define identify the problems facing the community. I will publish researcher reports to the public community identify the problems of the community and find ways, alternatives to solve the problems. Promote love for school among parents and promote attitudes towords learners education at home. Give out tips to the community on how parents can assist in education, on how to educate children at home. allow parents of different professions to come and give sermons in schools. Volunteering ommunity members could be an example to promote awareness and the well-being of a community in the classroom. find out new ways to improve the weaknesses in the community. Serving as an affiliate between companies, organisations and the community to make sure that the needs of the learners are met within the community, i.e uniforms are available stationeries are available and tools that help make education easier.
Conclusion
In conclusion the three competencies planning, designing development and community development are all importantly contributing to community and the classroom and should thus be acquire and achieved to create an effective education both in the classroom and outside. As well merging the two bringing them together to achieve one goal a successful educational system through a healthy relationship between the community and the school, both contributing to and taking part educating the learners.
